'ik heb geen moment spijt gehad van mijn keuze'

Zou ze grafisch vormgever worden of de ICT in gaan? Ayşegül Koçak is nog altijd blij dat ze koos voor het laatste. Als dataconsultant en business-analist bij Capgemini werkt ze nu mee aan de duurzaamheidsdoelen van haar opdrachtgever Agrifirm.

Kwaliteiten

‘Als eerstejaars overwoog ik een loopbaan als grafisch ontwerper. Design en fotografie zijn grote passies van me. Maar toen ik een studierichting moest kiezen, koos ik toch voor ICT. Waarom? Laten we zeggen dat ik mijn beperkingen ken, haha. Maar serieus, het leek me altijd mooi om een brug te slaan tussen techniek en mensen. Ik communiceer graag. En ik houd ervan om te luisteren naar de verhalen van anderen, waardoor ik mensen goed kan lezen. Daar komt bij dat mijn hoofd werkt als een programmeertaal; ook privé benader ik problemen heel gestructureerd.’

‘Dus na een studie in Jemen en Maleisië verruilde ik in 2019 mijn geboorteland Turkije voor Nederand – met een honourscertificaat van een bachelor in ICT op zak. Ik heb nooit spijt gehad van mijn gehad van mijn studiekeuze. ICT past bij me. Mijn kwaliteiten komen goed van pas in mijn werk, waarin ik techniek, analyse en advies combineer.’

Duurzaamheid

‘In 2021 ben ik begonnen bij Capgemini, sinds 2022 werk ik voor Agrifirm. Dit is een grote, van oorsprong Nederlandse, coöperatie van veehouders en telers. Over de hele wereld leveren ze onder meer diervoeders, producten voor gewas- en teeltverbetering, en advies op agrarisch gebied. Ik werk mee aan een corporate social responsibility-project: met collega’s bouw ik een Microsoft Power BI-dashboard.’

‘Agrifirm wil duurzamer werken en op termijn haar productie- en sourcingprocessen klimaatneutraal maken. Daarom heeft de coöperatie zichzelf ambitieuze doelen gesteld op het gebied van de inkoop van agrarische grondstoffen, de productie van diervoeder, en de producten en diensten die ze ontwikkelt voor boeren. Het dashboard moet Agrifirm inzicht geven in haar data, zodat ze haar duurzaamheidsdoelen kan behalen.’

Trots

‘Mijn collega’s en ik brengen gegevens uit de hele organisatie bij elkaar die iets zeggen over de prestaties op deze gebieden. Vervolgens zorgen we dat die gegevens op het dashboard helder in beeld komen. Zo kan de opdrachtgever precies zien hoe de organisatie ervoor staat. En of er moet worden bijgestuurd.’

‘Het is te gek dat we Agrifirm op deze manier inzicht kunnen geven in zijn duurzaamheidsprestaties. Inzichten die de opdrachtgever vervolgens inzet om deze prestaties te verbeteren. Zo blijkt het veel te schelen in de uitstoot van CO2 als je vrachtwagens bij het transport van grondstoffen helemaal vollaadt of maar voor de helft. Als Agrifirm zíet hoeveel dat uitmaakt, kunnen ze hun transportbeleid daarop aanpassen. En zo concreet werken aan vermindering van de CO2-uitstoot. Ze zijn daar heel serieus mee bezig en het maakt me trots om eraan bij te dragen.’

Bewustzijn

‘Mijn voornaamste rol in dit project is die van Power BI-developer. We bouwen een compleet dashboard met allerlei rapportages. Daar komt ook steeds meer advies bij kijken over hoe je data in het dashboard kan verwerken. Op dat gebied heb ik veel opgestoken van dit project. Mijn opdracht bij Agrifirm is dus van grote waarde voor mijn ontwikkeling als consultant. Een ontwikkeling waarvan niet alleen Agrifirm profiteert; ik neem deze ervaring mee naar toekomstige projecten.’

‘Wat voor projecten dat zijn? Wie weet kan ik me wel specialiseren in het onderwerp van mijn huidige project, corporate social responsibility. Hoewel de opdracht bij Agrifirm toevallig op mijn pad kwam toen ik bij Capgemini begon, heeft duurzaamheid absoluut mijn interesse. Het belang daarvan kreeg ik als kind met de paplepel ingegoten. Mijn moeder was vroeger al into recycling en hergebruikt spullen nog steeds zo veel mogelijk. Het zou fantastisch zijn als ik anderen via mijn werk kan laten zien hoe belangrijk duurzaamheid is.’

‘I haven’t regretted my choice for a single moment’

Should she study graphic design, or go for IT? Ayşegül Koçak is still happy that she chose the latter. As a data consultant and business analyst at Capgemini, she works to achieve the sustainability goals set by her client Agrifirm.

Qualities

“As a freshman, I considered a career as a graphic designer. Design and photography are two of my big passions. But when I had to choose a study program, I opted for IT instead. Why? Let’s just say that I know my limitations, ha-ha! But seriously, I’ve always liked the idea of being a bridge between technicality and people. I enjoy communicating. I love listening to other people’s stories, which helps me read people better. Plus, I have a brain that works like a programming language. Even in my private life, I approach problems in an organized way.”

“So after my studies in Yemen and Malaysia, I moved from my home country of Turkey to the Netherlands with a bachelor’s degree with honors in IT in my pocket. I’ve never regretted my choice of studies. IT is a good fit for me. My qualities come in handy in my work, where I combine technology, analysis, and consulting.”

Sustainability

“I started working at Capgemini in 2021, and I’ve worked for Agrifirm since 2022. It’s a large cooperative of livestock farmers and growers that was originally founded in the Netherlands. They supply animal feed, products for improving crops, and agricultural consulting services all over the world. I’m working on a corporate social responsibility project for them. My colleagues and I are building a Microsoft Power BI dashboard.”

“Agrifirm wants to work more sustainably and to eventually make its production and sourcing processes climate neutral. So, the cooperative has set ambitious goals in the areas of purchasing agricultural raw materials, the production of animal feed, and the products and services it develops for farmers. The dashboard should give them insight into their data so they can achieve their sustainable goals.”

Pride

“My colleagues and I collect data from throughout the organization pertaining to its performance in these areas. We then ensure that the data are portrayed clearly in the dashboard. That way, the client can see exactly where the organization stands at the moment, and if any corrections need to be made.”

“It’s amazing how we can help Agrifirm gain insight into its sustainability efforts this way. And the client can then use the insights to improve its performance. For example, you can realize a big difference in CO2 emissions if you load the trucks fully or only half-full when transporting raw materials. When Agrifirm sees what a difference that can make, they can adjust their transport policy. And that makes a tangible reduction in their CO2 emissions. They take that seriously, and it makes me proud to be a part of it.”

Awareness

“My main role in this project is as a Power BI Developer. We build a whole dashboard with different kinds of reports in it. But my work also involves consulting about how to work data into the dashboard. I’ve learned a lot in that area from working on this project. So, my assignment with Agrifirm is also very valuable in my development as a consultant. That’s a development that not only benefits Agrifirm; I’ll also take that experience with me to future projects.”

“What kinds of projects? Maybe I can specialize in the subject of this current project: corporate social responsibility. The assignment with Agrifirm came my way by pure chance as a new joiner, but sustainability is one of my main interests. I was raised with an understanding of how important it is. My mother was always into recycling, and she still re-uses things as much as possible. It would be fantastic if I could show other people how important sustainability is through my work.”
